Contohnya, perkataan 'hope' (harap) adalah 'non-action verb'. Oleh itu ia tidak boleh dijadikan 'continuous'. Perkataan 'hoping' yang dijadikan 'continuous' selalu diucapkan oleh penutur bukan 'native' tetapi ia sebenarnya salah dari segi nahu.
Bagaimanapun, sesetengah 'non-action verb' boleh dijadikan 'future continuous'.
